Drum roll ..... drrrrrrrrrrr ... ka-chiang!

hey guys!

Yup, it was us at Sizzler
's and ... I must say ... Wow! Fabian is fast! Posted on this blog well before I managed to compose my thoughts. .... errr then again ... I was never quck at thots :(

Ok then ... the date is set :

30 Jan 2009 - in the Year of the Ox!

I hope that you will ALL take this opportunity to inform your friends of ACSS 81, to check back on this blog regularly for details of the next gathering. :)

So please look to the right and vote on the location that you
like to meeet at. We will look into your consideration and make the necessary arrangements and bookings too!

At the time of this blog, out of the 5 who voted, we seem to be a little ahead in the direction of Hooters! Yay! ;-)

ok 60-40 ... the 40% who voted for the conventional ... probably had their wives overlooking their shoulders when they voted. heh heh

So, we are at it again and hope to see many of our friends from China back in Singapore and having a good time meeting up with us again!

Cheers
AF

Here it is - PROOF ! we sat down to plan the 2009 Annual gathering ! YEAH ! We were at the Sizzler@Suntec, and all five had the healthy serving of Salad Bar - no meat ;-)

As the saying goes "stomach healthy, mind healthy" (hmmmm wonder where it came from) .... we had a great discussion and most importantly catching up after 9 MONTHS ! (psst... there's another group of us who meet more regularly - almost monthly).

Not to steal the thunder, Alan will do the honors of announcing the details in the next posts. See ya soon, Fabian

Next gathering?

wow ... it's almost 9 months now since our last meeting. ;-) time enuff for making babies!

so ... how about it? are we keen to meet-up again?

A suggestion was to meet at the end of Nov ... but I'm thinking to better organise it this time ... and target it for CNY 09.

Do let me have yr views and I'll get cracking with Gordon and Wei Siong too.

Cheers

Echo Magazine Oct 2008!!!

Hey y'all ...

I have done a cut and paste of the "article" on this blog and sent it to Blueskies ;-)

They are the ones who publish the Echo Magazine ... err ... ok ... I din really cut and paste ... but did a bit of editing too.

Well ... the magazine editor further edited the aritcle ... gee! he thinks he can write better then I? How can that be?!!? ... ok ... frankly he does ;-) That's why he's the editor and I'm just the mad ACSian ranting about the night we had in Feb :-D

n e ways ... for those of you with sons in the ACS schools .... be sure to pester them when they get home with the copy of Echo Oct/Nov ... becos all yr photos will be there. And ... for those who don't have kids in ACS ... u should get that via the mail as members of the OBA (and I don't mean the acsoba.net).

So ... look out and have a good one, yah?

cheers
Alan Fu

PS: btw ... if any of our teachears happen to visit this blog ... or cohorts of '81 who are teachers themselves - I wish all of u a Happy Teachers' Day!

Hooray for Tao Li!!!

Tao Li has made us proud!

She broke the asian and national record for 100m butterfly in 57.54sec ... well done.

She unfortunately did not do as well in the finals this morning ... clocking in at 57.99 ... but I think it is just the pressure and also the enormity of her having to do better afer such a feat!

In some cases, athletes are pumped by their adrenalin in the finals to do better ... but in some cases ... they peaked too early ... maybe that's what happend to our dear Tao Li.

Interesting note as I read some webpages ... that she being China born should not deserve our praises or even our recognition shud she win the medal. :( I find this debate rather stale, and will not go into that at all.

Actually what really got me to writing this blog was reading that Tao Li was first a member of APSC (Ang Peng Siong) and then switched to SAC (David Lim). Both her coaches were old boys ;-) ... there u have it ... da link!

There were some shady story behind that move, but I shall not go into that ... after all ... it is water under the bridge. :)

Back to Tao Li ... I wish her well. She's only 18. In 4 yrs let's hope she'd have peaked and able to win a medal for Singapore! She needed to shave off a 0.29sec from her personla best and she'd be neck n neck for the Bronze today.

As for now, our medal hopes rest on Li Jia Wei our Table Tennis wonder!

Till then ... au revoir!

Snake gang in the Rat's hole!

Now ... that title was inspired by Gordon Tan! :)

That was what I wanted to write and get that published on Echo magazine - both in print and on web Blueskies
The article still found:
A 'mini' 25th Anniversary Celebration that will go down in history!
:)

I started writing a draft and promptly forgot to save that draft! Well ... as the story goes, the lights went off and I lost all the work that I put into that article. I never recoved from that loss :( so here is attempt #2:

It was the night after Valentines, and the year of the Rat had barely begun. While all the rats were asleep ... a cry went out for the Snake gang of ACSS '81 to gather again at the rat-hole - NUSSU Guild House @ Suntec!

It was a time of celebration, and a time of merriment. The Snake Gang of 1965 appeared from every corner of Singapore and many from China. They ate and drank (thks to David Chan) whisky and wine, and had a lot of catching up to do. The conversation drifted from the casual "hello" to iGallop, goverment policies and also the networking together to gather synergies for the companies. Some self-started and others work for.

I only wished that time would stand still, because, there were many others that I'd like to spend a little more time to catch up over the years that passed. All too soon, some announced that they had to leave. Ironically, I recieved a call towards the end, when someone said "Are you guys still there? I just finished my event and like to come over!". We even recieved a call from Wei Siong who had to travel abroad that Friday in Feb asking how the event was getting on! Wai Kin came even tho' he had to drive his son to Malaysia for a Rugby match!

Wei Siong, who had put in so much effort to consolidate the responses that we were getting in dribs-and-drab from the many of you who turned up. There were many too who replied to Wei Siong, Gordon and I that they were unable to attend. They came from all over US to Australia - but all of them were sad that they could not be here with us that day.

The call to gather more often was greeted with much enthusiasm. So, I hope that we can find another opportune time to meet again this year. I'd like to thank those of you who came to support and make the event a success. Yet there are those who could not attend ... we have your contact with us now :)

A little confession before I sign off ... us organisers made serveral boo-boos that night, but nonetheless ... the turnout was great and the ACSian spirit prevailed to make it happen!

Until we meet again ... c ya on ACSoba.net!

Cheers
Alan Fu
